About Us

OUR PURPOSE

There is no Parish Council to provide a collective voice for our area; WPARA is the residents’ representative on the Tunbridge Wells Town Forum.

WPARA has four principal activities:
Preserving

Most of WPARA is part of a local conservation area introduced in 2019 after several years campaigning. We work hard to ensure that the character and ambience of the private residences and public realm is maintained. This involves liaising with residents, local and county councils, utility companies and other stakeholders.

Campaigning

We campaign and advocate change with local government and companies that provide services to the area. For instance, we have been trying to resolve long standing issues concerning flood management with Southern Water, Kent County Council and other relevant bodies.

Improving

We support and promote changes to the local environment which are beneficial to residents. A good example of this is improved residents parking zones and we are currently talking to local councils and other community groups about the introduction of a 20-mph speed limit.

Supporting

We are committed to supporting the well-being of the residents and visitors to the area. We have an active Neighbourhood Watch group and have been involved with Kent County Council in improving street lighting and road safety.

Membership

Our membership year runs from January to December. The subscription is £20 per household, most of which is used to improve the area. To join please contact your nearest Area Representative (see Your Team page).
