Bench Renewal

One of the main focuses of our activity this year has been on repairing or where necessary replacing the benches in our area.

We are awaiting approval from the Council and the weather to abate before positioning the remaining benches so residents can walk all of the way up Warwick Park resting, if need be, to get up the hill. We have been able to do this voluntarily through the introduction of one of our residents Sophie to her father Gavin who has completed the restoration of the two benches at the lower part of Warwick Park. Gavin has also restored two benches offered to us from the cricket club to be positioned at the end of Nevill Gate and by the gate to the upper field. WPARA have purchased the materials for the restoration of the concrete bench towards the top of Warwick Park.

Finally, WPARA has used your subscriptions to have a superb bench built to replace the decrepit bench at the corner of Rodmell Road and Upper Cumberland Walk. Hopefully these plans will be fully complete by the end of the year. A big thank you to Sophie, Gavin, TWCC and all of the other volunteers who have assisted with this valuable project.

The bench was delivered by James from Jakk Country Furniture Designs http://www.jakkuk.co.uk. We’re keen to use local businesses where possible and they provided excellent service with a level of attention to detail to make the bench to our exact specification. Their workshop is based on a farm near Hailsham and, if you use a log burning stove and want to help the circular economy,  they also sell 5kg bags of compressed wooden briquettes made from off-cuts for £7 (6 for £30).  Speak to James 07769 353 148.

We now need to remove the existing bench and secure the new one.
