Bonfires
ALTERNATIVES
Bonfires are not illegal, however if not carried out with due consideration they can be annoying to residents and possibly a health hazard for people with asthma and other health conditions.
We realise some gardens in the area generate a lot of waste and it’s not always easy to dispose of, but if you do decide to have a bonfire please ensure the following:
Make sure all the material is dry. Dry matter burns more cleanly with little smoke
Avoid burning leaves or fresh hedge clippings as these generate smoke
Choose an appropriate time, ideally during the winter months when it’s cold and people are indoors with the windows closed. A clear day with no cloud cover and a gentle wind is also helpful.

Think of alternatives:
Invest in an electric shredder for small woody items as this compacts the material and it can be disposed of in the black bin garden waste
Get a composter.
Build a leaf store. The area is very woody and leaves can be a problem. Leaves decay by fungal growth and should be stored separately from general garden waste but can make a great soil improver.
