Street Art at Upper Cumberland Walk Bridge

The graffiti art project has been led by Upper Cumberland Walk residents after the bridge has been spoilt by graffiti vandals for many years. We are hoping vandals will respect a real artist who uses spray paint in a more constructive way than them. This remains to be seen.

The Warwick Park Area Residents Association after the huge success of renovating and replacing the benches, planters and the bulbs ( which are being planted again this September) has last weekend replaced the graffiti laden wall in Upper Cumberland Walk (where the trains used to go over the bridge to Tunbridge Wells West)  with an  artist’s portrayal of all the sports in the immediate area including tennis, shooting, running,  hockey and of course Kapel Dev’s glorious 175 not out in 1983 at the Nevill.  Loads of Indian tourists still come to visit the Nevill.

It is encouraging that a previously graffiti strewn unswept area has been cleaned for the first time in many decades and replaced with an artistic endeavour by local residents who live in or adjoin Upper Cumberland Walk. Hopefully, this will all help to motivate young people in taking up these sports and others to continue to improve the area.

We are always looking for volunteers and residents who will actively come up with ideas and work to improve the area.
